The Practice of Biophilia in Living Buildings

At Camp Glenorchy, an hour’s drive from Queenstown.

Living Future Aotearoa NZ and the Living Future Institute Australia, is delighted to announce the inaugural Oceania Biophilia Summit to be held at Camp Glenorchy, New Zealand, 5-7 August 2019.

 The Summit provides all attendees with the opportunity over a period of 2 & 1/2 days to immerse in the exploration of Biophilia and how this can truly influence the design process. This will be done while enjoying the environs of the beautiful Mt Aspiring National Park and Camp Glenorchy, an Eco Retreat designed to the Living Building Challenge. 

 We are deeply honored to have both Amanda Sturgeon, CEO of the International Living Future Institute; author of Creating Biophilic Buildings, and David Trubridge; renowned International furniture designer, join us for this interactive event. During the summit, we will help you foster a deeper understanding and examination of the potential benefits and practical application of Biophilia, in built environment projects.

This Summit is suited to; Architects, Landscape Architects, Designers, Clients, Developers, Engineers, Government stakeholders, Iwi, University Academics.

CPD points will be available. (Some pre-reading will be required prior to attendance at the Summit.)
NZIA : 80 points
LFA : 1 credit for every hour of tuition
NZILA : 1 pt for every hour of tuition

Intended Learning Outcomes

To take a deep dive into Biophilia and specifically its application in the Built Environment:

  1. How the benefits Biophilic design can contribute to human health.

  2. The importance of place when applying Biophilic principles to design.

  3. How to integrate and apply Biophilia in a project, or the built environment through the development of effective frameworks.

$750 including GST for the fully catered conference with onsite accommodation available at special rates for up to 38 attendees.

$275 including GST for full-time students and not-for-profit businesses, full conference.

$175 including GST for one day attendance 9am-5pm Tuesday 6 August (dinner not available).

$free Creating Biophilic Buildings talk and book-signing with supper afterwards 7pm-7:45pm Tues 6 Aug. Register here if you are not registering for the conference. Public attendance by Koha to cover costs.

Book the onsite accommodation at Camp Glenorchy online here, for the nights of the 5th and 6th of August, using the code OBS19 to get the following special prices including GST for two nights:

  • $774.40 NZD Premium Double Bedroom, Single or Double occupancy with one king bedroom;

  • $440 NZD Cabin Double Bedroom, Single occupancy or Double occupancy;
    we are able to split these Cabin rooms to contain twin singles, or otherwise one king bed. Let us know if you wish to twin share with another attendee, we may be able to complete some match making.

  • $120 NZD Bunk Bed per person, shared accommodation.

You’re very welcome to book additional nights either side, and will receive a discount for additional days stayed.

If you are booking as a larger group (3 or more people) we have the capacity to use an adjoining bunkroom to a cabin room for only one occupant, please call Camp Glenorchy if this is the case, and we will help you out.


Glenorchy is a scenic 1-hour drive from Queenstown airport. Casual proceedings start at Camp Glenorchy on Monday 5 August at 2 pm, with formal proceedings beginning 5 pm.

We suggest you book a shuttle with Glenorchy Journeys leaving Queenstown Central Monday 5 August at 1.45pm or 3.45pm, and returning 4:45pm on Wednesday 7 August.
